Our love story.

Our story began almost 16 years ago... (wow that just made me feel old)
*Disclaimer* this story is very cliché but aren’t all stories of love and romance clichéd?

We went to the same high school together & graduated the same year... Our parents lived 5-7 minutes away from one another (depending on if you hit the light or not.)

He was the bad boy who got into fights. He was that guy that everyone knew in either a good way or bad way depending on what your view is of certain criminal behaviors... He hung out with the popular crowd but never associated himself with it, because that's not his style.

I was the good girl, who just so happen to be best friends with the popular girls at school… I got good grades, was active at my school and played sports. Everyone liked me, I was voted Class Clown and Best eyes.

But enough about my glory days.

I remember the first time I saw him… I was in gym class, our freshman and we were walking towards the track, he was under the bleachers smoking with a group of his friends. We looked at each other as we passed... He gave me a little smile. After we passed I quickly turned to my friend Alicia (who knew everything about everyone) to find out what his story was...

You know in Clueless when Tai tells Cher that she likes a boy and Cher tells Tai "No respectable girl would ever date him?" I totally got that talk.
So I left it alone.

But every time I would see him he would always smile as we passed each other in the hall...

Sophomore year we had English class together... That was until he got kicked out of that class.

That year I would see him around...At parties or at the mall... Still never said a word...

Junior year we had 3 classes together... Still never talked...

That was until Christmas break came around... My friend hosted a huge Christmas party... I was there and so was he... We passed each other in the hallway, he smiled and said hi to me...This is the first time we ever spoke... My heart melted. He was so cute and so sweet... At least he was to me.

Now this Christmas party my friend had... Her parents didn't know about it... It got out of hand... Of course the cops came... Everyone started running because we were drinking. I lost all my friends... I started to panic because I didn't know what to do... Then he grabbed my hand.... "Come with me" he said.

He held my hand as we walked out the side gate and quickly walked to the park across the street where we ran into all our friends... Still holding hands. When I found my girls I thanked him for helping me.. He smiled and said "no problem," gave me a big hug and we said good-bye.

I smiled all Christmas break and COULD NOT wait to get to school to see him...
That was until I got the call that my friend Sarah started dating him...
I was crushed.

But you know high school.. I quickly got over it...
By senior year I had a new group of friends and had moved completely on.

I would see them in the hall and smile and say hi to them...
Prom and graduation came and went... And life began to take over....

I saw him a couple times after graduation... Sarah broke up with him... But he quickly rebounded and started dating this young girl...

More years passed... I would hear stories about him...Heard he had a kid.... Heard he got in trouble once again...Heard he had another kid....

I would often think about him...I hated to hear all the bad things that he was doing. I never wanted to believe that he was that type of guy because I never saw him being such a trouble maker... I saw a sweet guy...

On November 6th, 2009 I was seeing this guy and we decided to go grab a drink and watch the Phoenix Suns play. I turned my head and there he was.... I will never forget the look on his face when he saw me. He lit up and walked immediately over to me... Gave me a big hug and sat down right next to me.... We smiled and started talking right away... I totally forgot about the guy I came with.. That guy eventually got upset and left me at the bar without saying good-bye.

So there we sat talking up a storm for hours... It wasn't until the bartender said it was closing time that I had realized the time.

We walked out of the bar and it was pouring rain. He ran with me (we live in Arizona and clearly don't know how to function in the rain) to my car where I jumped in and quickly said good-bye.

It wasn't until I was half way home that I realized that I didn't have his number and he didn't have mine.

I freaked out... He didn't have a facebook... How would I ever get to see him again. Then it hit me...Maybe he didn't want my number. Maybe he wanted to just be friends...

And then my phone rang... It was a number I didn't recognize... I answered it.
"Courtney, hey it's Colby... I forgot to give you my number and you forgot to give me yours."

We have been together every day since...

He told me he liked me since freshman year but he couldn't date me because I was a goodie-goodie and heard I was a prude.
I told him I liked him since freshman year but I couldn't date him because he no respectable girl would ever date him... He doesn't get it.

But he still melts my heart when I pass him in the hall of our house and he smiles at me...

So sweet! Some things are just meant to be! I hope your parents think he's a respectable man now and are happy that you are together! :)
